BMW has developed EfficientDynamics: a range of new technologies to produce more powerful and dynamic cars with improved fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions.
Guy Adams, Dealer Principal, explains: “EfficientDynamics includes pioneering the use of more lightweight materials to achieve significant weight reduction, and the development of advanced engine technologies to create fuel-efficient, better performing cars.
“These will ensure that our new models give you the drive you expect from a BMW with less of the financial burden usually associated with owning a performance car. You’ll also benefit from stronger residual values as performance, efficiency and low running costs make the cars even more appealing at resale.”
Five new technologies, included on all new BMW models, have been developed as part of the EfficientDynamics programme. Each works to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
Auto Start-Stop Function is a fuel-saving feature that automatically stops the engine when the car is idling then restarts as soon as you depress the clutch. Intelligent Alternator Control saves fuel and cuts emissions by disengaging the alternator when the battery is fully charged and engaging it again only when needed. Brake Energy Regeneration makes full use of otherwise wasted energy to charge the car’s battery. Electric Power Steering reduces the weight of the car by removing the need for a hydraulic pump. Optimum Shift Indicator indicates the optimum gear for any given driving situation, again helping to save fuel and cut emissions.
Guy Adams adds: “EfficientDynamics is a huge step towards producing cars that have less impact on the environment, are efficient to run and yet still provide the same performance that people expect from a BMW.”
